Deal Castle, Deal, Kent - Tel. 01304 372762.  Deal Castle is one of the finest artillery works in England; this fortress once carried 119 guns.  This castle offers exciting battlements, dark passages and a huge basement to explore.

Walmer Castle and Gardens, Kingsdown Road, Walmer, Deal, Kent.  CT14,  Tel.01304 364288.  This castle was built in 1540 as part of Henry VIII's chain of coastal defenses.

Crampton Tower Museum, The Broadway, High Street, Broadstairs, Kent.  CT102AB  Tel- 01843 871133.  This museum is set in the old town waterworks celebrating Thomas Crampton, the famous Victorian engineer.  It features railways, transport and local history.  Exhibits include working models, an interactive display for children and a miniature railway. 

Deal Maritime and Local History Museum, 22 St George's Road, Deal, Kent.  CT14 6BA.  Tel- 01304 373684.  This museum has displays of real model boats, figureheads, lifeboats, lifesaving, the boatmen and Deal Pilots, the Cinque Ports, three Castles, Royal Marines, local life and social history objects.

Dickens House Museum, 2 Victoria Parade, Broadstairs, Kent. CT10 1QS.  Tel- 01843 861232. This was once the home of Mary Pearson Strong, upon whom Charles Dickens based the character Betsey Trotwood in 'David Copperfield.'  The museum contains memorabilia, prints, costume and Victoriana.  There are guided tours available.

RAF Manston History Museum, Manston Road, Manston, Ramsgate, Kent.  CT12 5DF. Tel- 01843 825224.  At the museum there are aircraft and exhibits illustrating the history of the airfield at Manston from 1916 to the present day.  Both this museum as well as the next one, are within walking distance from Manston Court (about 1/2 mile).

RAF Spitfire and Hurrican Memorial Trust, Manston Road, Manston, Ramsgate, Kent.  This museum is dedicated to the Battle of Britain.  There are WWII Battle of Britain Fighter Planes - Spitfire and Hurrican and artefacts from that time. 


St Peter's Village Tour, St Peter's Parish Church, Hopeville Avenue, St Peter's Broadstairs, Kent.  CT10 2TR. Tel- 07546 514948.  This is an excellent walk around this historic village, where the past is dramatically brought to life by costumed characters.  Booking is essential.

St Peter's Churchyard Tour.  St Peters Church, St Peter's, Broadstairs.  CT10 2TR.  Tel- 01843 868646.  This is a one hour guided tour round a variety of interesting graves in one of the longest churchyards in England.  Booking is essential.

Broadstairs Farmers Market, Broadstairs Harbour, Broadstairs, Kent. CT10 1EU.  This market offers a wide selection of goods from fresh food, plants and crafts from all over Thanet, in this beautiful sea-side location.  Every Sunday from 10am to 3pm.  Bank holidays (weather dependant). 

Kent Greeters, c/o Crampton Tower, The Broadway, Broadstairs, Kent.  CT10 2AB.  Tel- 07500 080076.  The Kent Greeters programme enables visitors to meet with local people from Kent who are friendly and enthusiastic about the place in which they live. 

Rare Species Conservation Centre and Zoo, South East Water Gardens, Dover Road, Sandwich, Kent.  CT13 0DG. Tel- 10304 611578.  This place is home to a unique collection of some of the world's lesser known rare and endangered species of animal.

Fowlmead Country Park, Sholden, Deal, Kent.  CT14 0BF. Tel- 01304 615390.  This country park is the new nature reserve and leisure park that has been regenerated from the former Betteshanger Colliery spoil tip.  From cycling to bird-watching, from running to horse-riding, it offers a great day out.

The Secret Gardens of Sandwich, The Salutation, Knightrider Street, Sandwich, Kent.  CT13 9EW. Tel 01304 619919.  The gardens are 3 1/2 acres of architectural and formal gardens by Sir Edwin Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll.

Samphire Hoe, off the A20 carriageway, between Dover and Folkestone. CT16 1JT.  Tel- 01304 225649.  This unusual place is made from the material dug to create the Channel Tunnel.  It has something for everybody - a stunning location with wild flowers, birds and sea angling, peace and quiet, painting and lovely walks.

Margate RNLI Lifeboat Station, The Lifeboat House, The Rendezvous, Margate, Kent. CT9 1HG. Tel- 01843 221613.  This is a working lifeboat station with offshore lifeboat 'Leonard Kent,' and inshore lifeboat 'Tigger Too.' 

Shell Grotto - Grotto Hill, Margate, Kent. CT9 2BU  Tel: 01843 220008,  Shell Grotto is a series of underground passageways covered by 2000 sqft of exquisite shell mosaic.  Discovered in 1835, no one knows who created it, although many believe it to be a temple.

Quex Park, Birchington, Kent. CT7 0BH.  Tel. 01843 841119.  Quex Park includes a Victorian house and garden, The Powell-Cotton museum, African natural history and a children's play barn are among the other attractions at this venue.

Richborough Roman Fort and  Amphitheatre, Sandwich, Kent. CT13 9JW.  Tel. 01304 612013.  The impressive ruins of the Roman Township at Richborough mark the point from which the Romans launched their successful invasion of Britain in 43 AD.

Turner Contemporary Art Gallery. 17-18 The Parade, Margate, Kent. CT9 1EY.  Tel. 01843 280261  This visual arts organisation based in Margate celebrates Turner's association with the town and promotes the understanding and enjoyment of historical and contemporary art. 

Little Art Gallery, off Harbour Street, Broadstairs, Kent.  CT10 1NA.  Tel- 07817 116007.  All pictures are by local artists. 

Old Town Gallery 1-3 Broad Street, Margate, Kent.  CT9 1EW.  Tel- 01843 225565.  Contemporary jewellery and textiles are made in the gallery.  Art exhibitions and evening craft courses in jewellery and stained glass are available.

Draper's Windmill, St Peters Footpath (off College Road), Margate, Kent.  CT9 2SP. Tel- 01843 226227.  This is known as a smock windmill built by John Holman of Canterbury in 1854.  It was restored to working order in 1968-1974.

Sarre Windmill, Ramsgate Road, Sarre, Kent.  CT7 0JU.  Tel- 01843 847573.  This windmill is the only commercially working windmill in Kent, selling their own flour, cereals and porridge in the gift shop.

Gazen Salts Nature Reserve off Strand Street, Sandwich, Kent.  CT13 9AH. Tel- 01304 617197.  This is a 15 acre man made nature reserve with 1 1/2 miles of winding paths.

Monkton Nature Reserve, Canterbury Road, Monkton, Ramsgate, Kent.  CT12 4LH. Tel- 01843 822666.  There are 16 acres of woodland, with cliffs, chalk grassland, pond water life as well as a bat cave.

Sandwich and Pegwell Bay Nature Reserve, Cliffsend, Ramsgate, Kent.  CT11 5DR. Tel- 01622 662012.  This nature reserve is only about 4 miles away from Manston Court.  It is a lovely place to walk or have a picnic and watch the wild life by the sea.  

There are many golf courses both locally in Manston and Broadstairs, as well as within a 15/20 minute drive of Manston, Sandwich Golf Course being the most famous where the Open Golf will be taking place between the 9th and the 18th July 2011.
